چکیده

We propose a solution to a problem that is encountered in defining a notion of full meet base revision, ensuring that the output can always be re-used as an input. For this purpose, we introduce the concept of a separable belief base and show that separable bases are exactly those for which the full meet revision closure operator satisfies the extended set of A. G. M. postulates. We then define a full meet revision operator ◊ that associates with any consistent formula α and any separable base B a separable base B◊α. This construction provides an interesting solution to the problem of iterated revisions, as we show that the iterated revision B◊α◊β of the separable base B◊α by β is classically equivalent to the revision B◊(α∧β) of the separable base B by the conjunction of α and β.

A General Model for Epistemic State Revision using Plausibility Measures

In this paper, we present a general revision model on epistemic states based on plausibility measures proposed by Friedman and Halpern. We propose our revision strategy and give some desirable properties, e.g., the reversible and commutative properties. Moreover, we develop a notion called plausibility kinematics and show that our revision strategy follows plausibility kinematics. Furthermore, ...

An English Grammar Checker as a Writing Aid for Students of English as a Second Language

This paper describes an implemented on-line English grammar checker for students of English as a second language. This system focuses on a limited category of frequently occurring grammatical mistakes in essays written by students in the English Language Programs at the University of X. The grammar checker exploits the syntactic domain of locality from a Combina-tory Categorial Grammar for the ...

A NOTE ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HUTTON'S QUASI-UNIFORMITIES AND SHI'S QUASI-UNIFORMITIES

This note studies the relationship between Hutton's quasi-uniformities and Shi's quasi-uniformities. It is shown that when $L$ satisfies``multiple choice principle" for co-prime elements, the category of Hutton's quasi-uniform spaces is a bireflective full subcategory of the category of Shi's quasi-uniform spaces. Especially, if the remote-neighborhood mapping defined by Shi preserves arbitrary...

A commodity-money refinement in matching models

We apply a commodity-money refinement to matching models in which people meet in pairs and buyers make take-it-or-leave-it offers to sellers. The refinement is applied by attaching a utility value to nominal money and letting that value approach zero. An equilibrium satisfies the refinement if it is such a limit. We show that the refinement eliminates a class of non full-support steady states. ...

Minimal Belief Change and the Pareto Principle

This paper analyzes the notion of a minimal belief change that incorporates new information. I apply the fundamental decision-theoretic principle of Pareto-optimality to derive a notion of minimal belief change, for two different representations of belief: First, for beliefs represented by a theory–a deductively closed set of sentences or propositions–and second for beliefs represented by an ax...
